Great hunt! Do you know how old the home is?
 
The thingy the Merc. is sitting on top of is either a dress hem weight or a weight that is put in the bottom hem of a "sheer type curtain" to keep them hanging str8. G4E, you made no mention of iron trash, was there none at this site, if not, that is hard to believe.......nge
