Old house hunt..a real learning experience!!

I got a lead yesterday from a client on an old house that he owns that is just down the road from me. He gave me permission to have a go at it, so this morning I was out bright and early, and after a hearty breakfast, I rigged up the AT Pro (just back from the Garrett Hospital)to give it a try. Here's the old house!!

I set the AT to Pro mode, zero disc and 25 iron disc and ground balanced it at 77 and away I went!! My goodness were there ever A LOT of nails!!! Just about every target had at least a couple of nails in the hole with it. It was giving me fits at first until I got my first good coin and then a light came on as to what the AT was telling me. "Go slow and listen to me, dagnabbit!!" And that's what I did. I listened carefully through to iron boops and scratches for solid hits, irregardless of the conductivity, As long as it wasn't a low tone, I dug it and the AT rewarded me with several keepers. After about 3 hours and several good finds in my pouch, I rigged up the 250, just to see what it would find. I hunted with it for just under and hour and got no keepers. The nails must have been putting blinders on the little 250 as it had very few hits. So, after a good lunch of chips and salsa and a hot plate of enchiladas with all the fixins, I went back and went with the AT again. More keepers in my pouch!! It was tough on the ears, but with patience, quite a lot of fun!!

Here's the total take!! I got plenty of relic type stuff, including one junk ring.

I ended up with 2 no-date buffalo nickles, one 1953 nickle, one 1908 v nickle and 4 wheats, 1944, 2-1953 and a 1956 for older coins and a few more modern clad.

I've got to say, the AT is unlike any detector I've used before (and I've used a bunch). It will give you some nice finds if you are patient, even in a nail and iron infested spot.

Very nice hunt. I wonder about the silver. You came to the same conclusion as I did. Slow down. If I have to process the chatter in my brain I will have to slow down to do it.

Nice hunt. That house looks like it has a good size yard on it . Looks like you will be going back there soon. Thanks for all the pics:thumbup:

WOW BigCatDaddy the AT-PRO really shines in those iron infested sites WTG

You dug up some good ones patience paid off. Congrats !

are you going to go back and give the 250 4.5 sniper coil a crack at it?

HH

That's the coil I had on the 250. It found very few targets, not one coin with it. It just couldn't see past all the nails and such. When I dug the V, 4 nails came out first before I got the 4" to the coin. Everytime I laid my Propointer down without turning it off, it started buzzing. If I'm able to go back, I might get one of those magnets on little wheels and drag it around first. AT sounded like a popcorn popper!!
