My camera is not up and running right now so you just have to picture this in your mind. This spot is about 2 miles from my house and I've been wanting to hunt it for years but could never get permission. Sunday I called the current farmer and he said go ahead and hunt. Star and I worked it for about an hour. I didn't find much but junk but Star found a nice early to mid 1800's flat button. I decided to hit the site this evening for another hour and see if my luck there might get better. I dug tons of junk from where the old house was torn down and then hit a 3 penny pocket spill. I'm feeling a bit better now even though 2 of the pennies were memorial and 1 was a 1951 wheat. I went about 10 more feet and got a deep VDI signal that said it was a possible piece of silver. I dug a plug about 5 inches deep and my pinpointer said the target was a bit deeper. I'm fairly sure that this is a coin target and am starting to get excited. This is a very old site so anything might show up in the ground. I push the digger in several inches and pop up the bottom of the hole. Out pop 2 silver quarters. They are all covered in dirt but I can see the silver color showing through on both. I can't tell what they are yet but I have visions of seated or barber quarters. I set them aside and rechecked the hole for more. Dang, only the 2, but I'm doing the happy dance anyway. I don't want to scratch my silver so I carry a pill container of water to put it in and then clean it later. I got out my container of water and picked up the quarters to place them into it and the first thing that hit me was that the quarters were extremely light, in fact, very very light. Aluminum light. They were aluminum Shell Gas state tokens. What a letdown. Normally I would be thrilled to find them but this time it was a disappointment since I let myself get so excited. Oh Well, that what makes this hobby so much fun.
