old gun help

a friend of mine found this old gun the barrel is 22 inches,,the hole is 5mm and the hammer is like a 2 part , cock it back and there is another thing that moves back thats infront of the hammer.... any help would be greatly appreciated
 
5mm is 20 caliber, It's just a guess but i suspect it's 22 long rifle rolling block rifle[with parts missing]. Could be a falling block rifle if there's a lever underneath [can't tell from pic]
 
If this was found out in the woods somewhere's, I would also show it to the local Police, as it could just be the missing key to solve some old cold case...
