Old gold, silver, 1896 SF Dog License, & tokens :)

Got out a couple of times this past week, and I did pretty well. Scored an old gold ring with a small diamond, a Barber quarter, and a couple of really cool relics.

One of my favorite finds of the year is something that's been on my bucket list for a while, been hoping to dig a pre-1900 dog license, and I hit pay dirt with an 1896 San Francisco Dog License!! Looked online and the oldest San Francisco dog license I could find was from 1909.

I also found a neat railroad button from the long defunct San Francisco Presidio & Ferries Railroad with a little rail car depicted in the center, wish it was in better condition, but it's gotta be a rare California button. Got an early U.S. Marine Corps two piece cuff button, and a civilian button with a dog or horse on it. Not far from it I got a neat old lead racing horse with the jockey on it and it still has some original color on it. Also dug a couple of tokens, including a BALICH BROS.PHONE CHECK / 5¢ / MOISE S.F.

Very nice haul!!!
Do you remember what the unit read in the gold ring?
Which unit were you swinging?

Very nice finds!!

SWEET! Several bucket lister's there for sure. Any hints on location? Park, vacant lot or whatever? Also I have a shiny new locator tag I'd like to send you so you can wear it in the field and if you go down, 911 can call me and I can tell them where to find you.

Was this all from one site or a mix of places?

Using the Racer 2 for this, I would guess, and which search coil, search mode and settings?

I trust your good success will continue this summer. Keep working on that bucket-list. :detecting:

Thanks everyone for taking a look, and for your kind comments. Pastor Tom send that GPS tracker, let's see how deep in the ground the Racer can detect it

I don't want to say too much about the site at this time, other then there is a LOT of iron and other old junk there. I started off with the factory 11" DD on the R2, and it did pretty well. Then I picked up a 13" coil for the Racer, and took it to the site and it was way too much coil given all the iron and other junk. After an hour or so with that coil, I switched to the factory 10" DD coil and immediately started finding stuff.

I've been running my standard program, 3-tones, tone break at 10 & 65, iron audio vol at 2, and initially I was running the gain at 98, but it caused too much falsing with all the iron. I dropped the gain down a bit and although I was still digging some iron, it wasn't falsing on iron as much as before (did I mention that there's a LOT of iron here?). Amazingly I'm digging some iron (some large iron) and then re-scanning the hole and low and behold there's a wheatie or silver coin there. I've been going slow, and using the minelab wiggle to isolate targets and bring up good tones.

On one hunt that I haven't posted finds from, I found a wheat spill, seven wheaties in one hole. Got another little spill with two wheaties and a merc. Most of the wheates I've been finding are early 1920's and older. Some coins or tokens are either so slick, or crudded up, that I've been unable to ID them. Found one holed round object that I was able to get enough crud off that it looks like it may have been a token with a coin style rim and a pattern around the parameter like a token, but I couldn't clean it enough to figure out what it was. Then some things will come out of the ground looking great.

I don't really recall what the gold ring came in as, but I definitely wasn't expecting it. It's an old one. Also got a little gold bar pin on another hunt that's not shown here.

Next time I'm able to get to this site, I'm going to slap on the 5" OOR coil. All the easy 5 star signals are gone, and albeit slow going with the OOR coil, I believe it'll be able to work through the junk and iron to pluck out some more goodies.

Brian
