Old Ghost Town

Hi I have been off the forum for about two years. Been busy with other stuff. Well Im back and want to share a MXT story with you. I have a friend at work thats family has a large plot of land with alot of history. Talked to some of the neighbors and they gave me permission to hunt their ground also. Well one of the neighbors went so far as to loan me some books and stuff about the area and went with me and showed me all he knew about where things stood. Well by the time I was done with the tour I had about 1 hour of daylight left. It was quite windy and cold but I did not care because I thought this place had alot of promise. Hunted for about 20 minutes and my friend said he had to leave to get his haircut and was cold anyway. I dug about 15 or so peices of old whatsits and trash. I was in the coin mode and got a signal showing a nickle at 6 inches. Well I dug and pinpointed with my Whites pinpointer and at about a foot the pinpointer sounded. After about two more inches of digging here it came. An 1851 Union Belt Buckle in great shape for being in the ground. I thought I was going to have a stroke!

Hi Brian,

Welcome back and congratulations on the great belt buckle. Do want to see pictures. Hope you took notes while the neighbor was giving the tour. Sounds like you have discovered a treasure trove.

Have fun, Bob

Went back tuesday and just dug alot of old junk. But I was digging everthing in the + numbers. Some of the site is farm feilds so I have to wait till they dry. I will take some pictures today and have a friend at work help me post them. Peace!

While the fields are drying, hunt under the largest (oldest) trees and see if you can find the outhouse locations. That 1851 Union Belt Buckle can't be the only great target on the site.

Have fun, Bob

I went over there Tuesday and just found junk. But the fields were too wet to get in. I will be going back next tuesday. I tried to post pic of buckle but choked. My wizz kid buddy at work is going to get it on here in the next day or two. Question will he have to send it from my email address or can he use his? Thanks

Here are a few pictures of the Buckle I found.[attachment 51869 buckle2006.jpg][attachment 51870 buckle2001.jpg][attachment 51871 buckle3001.jpg][attachment 51872 buckle3001.jpg]

Wow, it really is in great condition. That is an outstanding find.

Have fun, Bob

Hi Brian:

Great find.<p> Those old buckles are scarce and hard to find especially in good shape.

Thanks for the positive replys! We dont find many civil war items in this area. I found a couple of union buttons but thats it. The buckle was found between the hotel and the saloon so maybe the guy got so drunk he lost his pants:cheers:. Im going back tuesday. A farmer told me where the saloon was two days ago so im going to check it and were the depot was. Anyone want to join me? One question. I want to clean it better but not so much that I effect its value. Would a toothbrush with soap and water be about all I want to do?
