Old Gatehouse / Lowell Ma.

Ron J

Active member
This Gate House was erected around 1850. The Canal goes thru the City, which back then, Water, powered large Mills, from the Merrimack River. This particular Gatehouse, was built to prevent the City of Lowell, from being flooded from the Merrimack. At the same time, Barges, loaded with goods, could deliver into the city. The Stone workmanship is just amazing! This was built, when ANYTHING BUILT, was made to last forever! When America was strong, and Workers were Proud of their work.
