Old Garrett Metal Detector

My dad before he passed away gave me the metal detector he had purchased back in the early 1970's. It is a Garrett Relic Hunter Discriminating Hybrid Dual Circuit BFO. It looks as though he had barely used this. Also has 3-4 of Charles Garrett's 1st edition treasure hunting books. The technology sure has come a long way since the 70's. Has anyone used or is currently using this unit? Thanks, Dave

My oldest garrett was a Money Hunter TR , im thinkin I bought it in about 1977.never had a bfo model.

Thanks for all the info. I forgot to add that about a year ago I had pulled it out and used it in the back yard with not a lot of success. At that time I had a GTAX 550 to "compare" it to. Since that time I had sold the 550 and just 2 weeks ago bought a GTP 1350 of which I can not wait to use. Right now with the weather as it is in northern Illinois it is difficult to use. Two days ago believe it or not the temp was in the mid 60's which is about 40 degrees above normal. That was also the time that several tornadoes touched down about 4 miles northeast of us.

That's an oldie. Does it have the double coil ( coil within a coil ) ? BFO,s are ancient technology and a bear to hunt with. Have you tried it out yet?

Bill
