old flat button with shank

I can't tell you much more than what is already on your button.

Best Colour is a quality mark and does not help determine who made it. There are many different quality marks that specify the gold gilt. Any time you see the spelling "colour" instead of "color" in a backmark, it is British/European-made.

These flat buttons were manufactured and used from the late 1700s to the mid 1800s.

Unless you can find any identifying marks or name, it will be impossible to tell who made it. These were made for civilian use but in rare cases a soldier could have salvaged buttons for use when they were in short supply during the civil war. Although, this scenario would be all but non-existent and wishful thinking.

I've found a few of these, all with a bit different quality mark, but its always nice to know that they were made in the early 1800's. If your finding those, you have a good chance at finding coins from the same time period.

Nice find!

this is the same field I found this button couple years ago. I will try to clean the one up and get any name I can
