Old farm site.

Got a chance to get out yesterday for a couple of hours and while driving to one of my good old producing school yard sites I discovered that an old farm was no longer there. The property was sold and lots of dirt was being moved around. One of the fellows operating a big back hoe gave me the ok to detect and I couldn't get my detector turned on fast enough.........:) Started out with a 42 merc and then two 43 mercs. My next signal about blew my ears off and out comes my first 1923 peace dollar. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that big hunk of silver staring back at me. I kept going and ended up with a 1907 injun in really nice shape, a 36 buffalo with a readable date and four wheat's, 37, 44, 45 and a 56. I didn't want to leave, but I had my two granddaughter's birthday party to go to. Went back out there this morning and the whole place was fenced in and I was locked out. Nobody around so I went back home with my tail between my legs. I'm hoping to get back out there again before they haul away all that dirt. Who knows what else might be hiding in that old dirt...........:) HH.

Wow, Eddie, great stuff!! Is that silver dollar a first for you? How deep were these things, especially the peace dollar? Were they just demolishing the farmstead or what? I sure hope you can get back in there to clean out the rest. How much time did you get to spend there?

Again, glad you found that place.

Doug

Thanks Doug.......:) That is my first peace dollar and second silver dollar that I have found. My first one was an 1878 Morgan that I got two years ago. The dollar was only about three inches deep and the other stuff was even shallower. I haven't been out that way in quite awhile and the last time I was by there the old farm house and out buildings were still there. Now they are all gone!! Sure surprised the heck out of me. I was only there for about two hours and if I could have stayed there longer it's hard to say what I might have found. The old farm was sitting on a hill and they are taking all the dirt out and leveling the place off. Sure would like to know where they are taking all that dirt.........:) Guess I got to get out and just drive around some of these old places and keep an eye on what's going on. Thanks again Doug. HH.

I would gladly settle for that Peace Dollar over a Seated Coin anyday! She sure is in great shape also. You better swing by that spot during the day somehow and see if the guy that let you in before is working again and see if it would be alright to go inside the gate when he isn't around. I sure hope you get back in there and find some more great finds like you found so far. I am very happy for you since you hardly have days like that and I wish you all the luck in the world. Nice Merc's and that Indian Head sure is a beauty. Again, WTG Buddy and Good Luck and HH on your next return trip.

Try asking where the dirt is being taken to...Shouldn't be too hard...I'm pretty sure if you ask the truck driver he'll tell you...That's what I do for a liveing when I feel like being employed by someone else....I drive transfers & end dumps....of course if is being taken to a recycler you probably won't get permission because of liability issues...Tom

I got my first peace dollar, but I'm still waiting for my first seated.......:) The problem with trying to get back in there is that I would have to be there when they are working. Otherwise, they put a chain and lock on the fence getting in there. Thanks for the positive reply James and you are right that you don't have days like that very often and this will be one I will remember for quite a while. I will see if I can get back in there this Sat and hope someone is there. I'll keep you posted.........:) HH.

Is your yard big enough....Have them dump the dirt in your yard:bouncy:

I sure would like to know where there going to dump all the muk from the bottom of our lake after they dredge it.....???

Thanks Mirage. Those silver dollars are out there and if you keep a positive attitude and with a little luck you might just be in the right spot at the right time just like I was.........:) HH.

Eddie

Thanks Jerry. I plan on trying to get back in there this Sat if there is someone there. I sure wish I would have known about them tearing down the old house and before they started hauling all the dirt out of there. HH.

Eddie

Thanks Bruce. It was good to get out if only for a couple of hours. I wish I could have spent more time there. I do have a place they could dump that dirt, but I'm sure I would have to pay for it and the finds in that dirt probably wouldn't pay for the cost of the dirt..... :) I bet you can find out where they are going to take the muk from your lake. Good luck and HH.

Peace brother! Super find. Wonder if I will ever find a peace dollar.

Sorry honey I had a flat and the spare was flat too! Sorry, my watch battery must have died! Sorry, I made a wrong turn and got lost and ran out of gas... We'll do the party next next month!

Well, you have some pretty good excuses there Holedigger, but as much as I love metal detecting I have to admit that my two granddaughters are the love of my life and I wouldn't miss their birthday party for anything......:) HH.
