After yesterdays complete bust at the old Fairgrounds I decided to try again, but this time go with Chris who knew his way around in there. He had pictures of the entire grounds showing where everything was back in the early teens and 20's. We focused on an area near one of the main building foundations that was still recognizable, and within 15 minutes I was on my first decent signal. Tricky bugger because I kept losing it every other swing. It was 4 inches down, on a sharp angle, and the numbers were bouncy. Turned out to be a 1920 Merc. Just as I was filming the dig a bunch of guys on quads showed up. Chris had some good luck too because he scored a nice old Indian Head just 30 feet from where I was. All total I found a 1920 Merc, two 1920 Wheat pennies, and one clad quarter. This place has a LOT of potential, but the mosquitos ate us alive at dusk, so I may have to wait till the Fall before I start going in there to hunt longer.
