OLD FAIRGROUND FINDS

The weather was beautiful and I got the urge to metal detect. I grabbed my faithful Garrett GTI 2500 and headed 27 miles to an old fairground that closed in 1957. I have hunted it a couple of times, each year for at least 25 yrs, after the crops are out and before they plant it in the spring. Each time that I have hunted it I have found silver. Obviously, any denomination, .10 or above, is silver and all pennies are wheats or older. I have never left there without some coins. Fortunately, the owner doesn't let anyone else go in there with a detector. This year, the field was in beans and they, recently, tilled up the ground so that the soil is loose, down to approx. 3". It couldn't have been any more perfect for metal detecting.

One word, WOW.

You found more silver coins in an afternoon than I have found since August. Mercury dimes are nice looking coins but those Walking Liberty Halves got them beat running away and you found a beauty! When I find a spot like that one I'll probably never leave.

Enjoyed the pic a lot!

Chris

man that is so much silver its scary so far i have one silver dime and thats it your lucky man congrats on all the silver

I drove down to the old fairgrounds, today, to see if I could find some more coins. This time, in about two hours of hunting, I dug up four Mercury dimes, a silver War nickle, and nine Wheat pennies. I, usually, find silver every time I go there.[attachment 73021 Fairgrounds11-13-07.jpg]
