Old Excalibur opinions wanted.

I just acquired one of the older units with the red headphones and the SeaSearch coil, I also have one of the last generation Blue units. What's everyones opinion on which units are better. It seems to me that the older unit has a better tone separation on targets than the newer unit. Thanks for your input.

Mel, I have (2) OLDER Excaliburs that I use, and they both have the Red headphones!! I personally prefer these units myself, because the headphones are Better Quality and ESPECIALLY like the
knobs on the Control Box, THEY are MUCH BETTER QUALITY also!! I had the Blue headphone unit, that I had bought brand new, and Sold IT, after I bought my second Used RED Headphone
unit!! HH, Les Robinson

Not sure if this is the model but Minelab put out a list of older detectors that they will no longer repair. I know one of the Excals was on there so I would check it out. Can't remember the thread I read it in but if you search you'll find it. Could probably find it on Minelab's site too. --Jerry

Hi Mel, well i think the older one is the best since I've been using excals for a long time, the wire is better, the headphones are better, the knobs are better, and with that sea search coil you can really find some good stuff.

Yep, I think you're right. It said that the decal on the unit was a sword and those had the red phones I think. I guess the problem would be that even if you knew how to do the repairs yourself, where would you get the parts? Kind of a shame too because I agree that a lot of the older detectors are better than the newer ones. I had an original CZ6 when they first hit the street and imo it was probably the best of the lot. Only weatherproof though, not waterproof. --Jerry
