Old Coin Program

Since it is cold, snowy and windy outside right now, I decided to experiment with the E-Trac's ability to build custom patterns. Specificly an "Old Coin" program (as described in Andy's Book pgs. 110-114). I pulled out an assortment of old coins from my collection including silver dollars, silver halves and quarters ( Seated, Barbers, Walking Liberty, etc.), a 3 cent piece, gold 2 1/2 dollar coin, wheats, indians, buffalos, V-Nickels, Large Cent, dimes (Seated, Barbers, Mercs and Rosy's) and whatever else i might have that I thought I might hope to find in a REAL TRASHY site. I followed the instructions in the book and even expanded the accepted areas to allow for higher ferrous readings from different influences (depth, adjacent targets, etc.). It was fun and really quite simple to do. After I was done and had saved the new program to one of my pattern slots, I decided to test it out a little. I had to do this inside because of the weather but what the heck, it's an experiment anyway.
I placed a Barber half on the floor and placed a screw that's about 2" long right on top of the half dollar. I then swept the coil over it and it picked up the half, no problem. I thought COOL! so I added a magnetic driver bit about 3" long and 3/8" in diameter to the equation (set it next to the Half Dollar with the screw on it. I was only able to get a signal fro the Barber "One Way" but with the response set to "Pitch Hold" I was able to hear the threshold pitch respond to the half dollar. It was enough that you would definetly investigate the target (especially with so much discrimination in the pattern).
Anyway, I just wanted to share this since posts are starting to drop off regarding actual detecting because of the weather. It is time to shift to research and development stage so they don't haul us off in straight jackets before spring
I'm having fun with the new E-Trac despite being snowed in.

i tried that program in andy's book....hate to say but i like the relic program better with a few adjustments...i've been hunting a few fields....i tried that program and found a few colonials...but then i did the relic with the TTF and bingo, i got a 1814 half bust...she's pictured on the etrac forum....but anyways..i like the more open screen...seems to give me more depth....thank god i' m leaving soon for the south for a few weeks so i can metal detect....i'm going into detox mode thinking about snow and not metal detecting...so i bought a ton of old treasure hunting magazines to read to get me thru the winter...lol....on a seroius note , i truly believe that studying everything you can about your site is your best weapon.. ginger

How about a picture and even the pattern and mode files? I am brand new and like your idea of just old coins, as I live in the Mid -Atlantic where 1700's and early 1800's houses are plentiful. Thanx, MIke

As soon as I figure out how, I will post it :help:
