Old canteen...........

Kelley (Texas)

New member
Going through boxes in the garage when I came across my old canteen that my Uncle Doc gave me when I was around seven years old. All that I know about the history of it was that it was given to him when he was boy. I did not use it very much because the cork cap would leak under hard use. I ended up getting one similar that had a screw cap on it, and no leaks. Now I am using Google to see if I can find out how old it could be, but no luck so far. The cover is wool and is stitched around the body of the canteen, and the lid or cap is an actual cork. Has anyone ever seen one like this, and if so, do you know how old it could be? Kelley (Texas) :)

Kelley..I strongly suspect that the canteen is from the Spanish/American war era. HH TomB

Kelly...still searching. This is a pic of a civil war era canteen valued at $545.00. The more that I look at yours the more I'm thinking WW I. I'll keep looking. Tom

Second pic is the cork from a Spanish/American war canteen.

Like you, I have yet to find one that looks like it. I do appreciate your help, thank you! Kelley (Texas) :)

and, does it by chance say Palco on the canteen itself ?

It appears to be indentical to the front of the canteen. Kelley (Texas) :)
