Old can hiding+dime

OK I have found quite a few good targets next to the iron junk but this one blew me away.

I get a low mid tone with a high end to the sweep sound...I perk up and say what? I go over it again and look down in the field grass to see a lid to an old rusty steel can hiding...OK so why the high tone at the end of the swing? I kick the weeds and first inch or so of dirt away and the can lid goes flying 10 feet. I check the target with a swing and holy crap I am getting a high tone. I pull out a 1968 dime at 3 inches from right under that lid. Alright not silver but can you believe I even got a signal with that on top? That was crazy.

I have found quite a few good coins on this mountain trail so no need to fret about it not being a silver dime.
I pulled a 1960 half just five minutes earlier. I need to take time to post some of my finds as I am having a ball when I can get out with my girl Miss E.

good luck to you,

Good targets hiding like that can be real fun. My partner and I have a habit of picking up surface beer can tops, bottle caps and the like for that very reason. We have both found good stuff hidden under surface trash.

My last one was a nice 1894 IH cent under a piece of melted metal from a campfire. My best one was a beauty Std Liberty quarter about 3 inches under a bottlecap.

Yes, post up some pics of your finds when you have time...we all would like to see them!

When I crawl through areas of thick trash, I just listen for a hint of "higher" tone....if I do, I try to clear some of the shallower lower conductors (or shallow zinc pennies/screw caps, etc.) from the area, and listen to the signal again....it's remarkable how really good signals we want to dig can be partially, or completely, masked. That's where most of the good finds are still hiding....in the trash!!
