OLD BUTTON

[attachment 63488 oldflatbutonwiththewordgiltonreverse.jpg][attachment 63489 oldflatbutton.jpg]hello i found this button at about 7 1/2 inches deep at a old site 1790's the only word on the back is "GILT" and leaves going around the outline of the button plus directly below oppisite side is a flower or star.does anyone know its age or maker?

Sounds like a penny button. If it has a flower on the front we always just called those flower buttons
