Old buckle

I've found a couple of those. It's horse tack related but can't remember from what part.
Maybe somebody else can elaborate. Some of them have a year on the back (under the leather belt).

Mine don't have a date on them but I have seen one that did. If I remember correctly it was Pat. 1875 or very close to that date.
You can look for horse tack buckle cover also. That might get you an image of your buckle since there were buckle covers that looked the same, just thinner.
I'm not sure if the covers were for this buckle or another style, but I've heard our buckles described as buckle covers. Your find proves it wasn't just a cover.

Although often called a buckle cover, I have never seen them cover a buckle, just don't think there is that much room under them to fit a buckle........... but I'm not a horse man either. All of the ones I have seen were put on a bridle as eye candy like rosettes.
