Old Brass

Haven't been finding any old bullets but have found numerous old brass (copper) shell casings. Very large caliber stuff....... one looks like it's around .57 or .58 cal. Interestingly, some have the internal primer setup, which I believe is late 19th century stuff. Talked with a knowledgeable old gent and he said he heard the internal primer thing was used to keep the Indians from reloading them. I'm thinking they just didn't know how to use external primers yet.

Also found two approx. .38 cal casings, 1 7/8 in long, with crimping where the slug would normally go. Some kind of scatter shot, I'm thinking. Both had been fired (firing pin hit primer) but the ends were still crimped. Miss fires I guess.

Any of this stuff worth anything? Are there any websites that deal with old brass? Lots of old buttons here also but really corroded. I mainly hunt coins but this relic thing is starting to interest me.

OK, I'll give it a try. Casings with the WLH are the still loaded scattershot. Other picture is of large caliber casings with a 1865 nickel three cent piece for scale.

Rounds on the left appear to be military training blanks??? Do they happen to be .30 caliber? 30-06 or .308? If so, then I'd bet they are blanks.
