Old brass trigger guard and buckle ...

Ground_Hog_MD

New member
dug up a couple neat items today. found an old trigger guard, i believe off a rifle. ( ID help please )
a brass belt buckle. and a few odd iron objects, a large loop, what appears to be a piece of a gear. and a few other pieces.

The trigger guard sure looks old. Would be nice if copper coins held up that good.

based on a little research, the buckle appears to be a colonial or revolutionary era shoe buckle.
this theory is based on the size and curve of the buckle design in order to wrap the top area of the shoe or boot.
any thoughts ...

It appears that the brass trigger guard could have come off an old Muzzle Loading rifle. With the age of the other stuff that you dig the odds certainly make it appear to be of that period.

Based on all best ID`s that`s what i was thinking as well, - colonial / revolutionary era muzzle loader ...

did a little hunting . the trigger guard appears to be from an India pattern musket.
her is an example of one and the same trigger guard .
