Old Boston Surfboat..

This is an old Coast Guard Surfboat, from the early Thirties. The old Gal is owned and operated by Bang Inc., East Boston. Pete Bang Proprietor, a dying breed of old boatyards.

wow Coastguard has come a long way. Nice pics.

Do you have any pictures of the interior? How long is this old boat? This is a neat old boat. Kelley (Texas) :)

Remember this vessel was made to Save Lives, Tow any stranded vessel to safety, and return home. No comforts of home! The first 3 are midships, being the engine room, with not too much room to be comfortable around it. The next two are the forward cabin, little bigger, but again no comforts. Rescued victims could feel safer below in a storm, but cramped. The last is Peter Bangs, the owner. He may not keep the 36 footer looking pretty, but you can count on the vessel being mechanically secure, and the bilge clean! Remember, he makes a living off of this old Gal...

One of the most useful craft ever designed and built!!

It would be interesting to know more of its history, development and origins!

Could it be a "take offf" of some European craft or was it an American inovation?

It's great that she is still serving as she was designed to do!!

Thanks Ron for sharing your pics,

CJ

Yes Ron, there are few if any such boat yards like that left and even fewer men like Richard!!
