Old big flat button...

Aaron

Well-known member
I just found this old brass flat button at a really old site, not very pretty, but it still has the shank with a wreath around it and a eagle at the top.
Just wondering how old it may be. The site go's back to the 1850's.
Thanks,
Aaron

Not pretty? Man that is sweet and in nice shape, too. Sorry, have no idea as to dating buttons. I'd love to find one though... Good luck

I do have a button book,,mostly military and some others. It's allot of pages and I would bet this button is in there and could be ID'ed just from the back mark.
But I don't have the time to flip and look through every page. If you seen the book ,,you would understand.

Can anyone narrow this to a branch,,,division???

It's a keeper,, I can tell you that. I'll see if I can get lucky and find it.

It's a civilian flat button. The eagle on the backmark isn't military. Some say it denotes a British maker. Eagles were used on these items to reflect the patriotic climate of the times. They date from the late 1700s to the 1840s when two piece buttons came into being.
