Can anybody I.D. the age and use of this buckle? Found in S.E. Michigan, 2-1/8x1-1/2 looks to be made of brass or bronze with no identifying marks.

I looked up old shoe buckles also and didn't see anything similar. That doesnt mean it isn't, just that I didn't find anything like it.
