Old baseball field keeps giving

Merc

New member
I went back this afternoon too the old baseball field where I found the 1906 Barber dime. I used my home-built Bandido with a 10" concentric coil and listened for the slightest sounds. It does pay off to go slow and overlap a lot. I
found a 1917 Merc at 8". The only thing I had to measure with was my Garrett propointer which is supposed to be 9" long. I then got a 1942 silver war nickel at about 7.5". Again measured against the propointer. Later, I got a 1940 Merc
at only 4" and a couple of wheats. Pics to follow:

Nice digging .

great pieces, your getting serious depth with that machine

I have never really considered it to be a very deep machine. It is very stable and discriminates well. I gave myself every advantage I could. I used the largest coil I have, the 10.5 concentric.
I ground balanced very carefully and rechecked while I hunted. I turned the sensitivity up until it chattered and backed off a tad. I was scrubbing the coil across the grass and was just getting the weakest of signals. Overlapped sweeps like crazy. If it was repeatable most of the time, I dug. The ground was very moist and there was little trash and no mineralization.

I put so much effort into the hunt because I knew JB(MS) and a buddy had found 37 silver dimes in the area years ago. I figured there had to be more but they would not be easy and they weren't.

I'm going back for more...

I had been following that geotech build and saw a few of your pics along the way. If I had more time (three month old twin boys) I would deff take on that project! Nice work keep the pics comming!
