Old ax head before and after electrolysis

homebre

Member
I will post pictures of the ax head before and after. I am almost done with it but am having a little trouble getting the last bit of rust off. Any suggestions? Also, how do most people preserve the metal after it is dried-do you coat it with oil or something else?
Thanks,
Andy from Hillsborough

You could try soaking in Vinegar to remove the rust? and there are a number of WD40 like products that will protect and slow down the rusting.

you may also try linseed oil but be carefull any cloth left with the oil on it will spontaneously catch fire as it drys
