Okay, white SEF #'s while in back yard.

I like my SEF & before I went out to try for silver Saturday I took this pic in my back yard with considerable EMI. The coil reads different everywhere I go. What I can say is it doesnot overload at RX 15 with boost ON.

After taking the pics I went to a site that Zoom + ground tracking reads -94 at over 6.5%. This site used to give up the hoods Years ago and I did squeek a silver quarter earlier this year there. Rocky, redfish soil and the targets vary greatly in depth. My 1942 was almost 5" and I certainly missed it all these years. I accomplished my goal for thetime I had.

Can you tell me when you purchased this coil? I have had 2 of them now that overloaded and could not run a gain beyond 4 in 2.5.

Date of sale 1/21/2012. This size for the V/Spectra Whites had been out of stock for a while, I got a tip via the internet that the white ones were in. It seems that user was very happy the way his tested within the discussion of wether or not the white ones are "V nulled". Mine works particularly well in single 2.5 kHz with mixed mode stereo. Initially when I tested it I don't recall any problems in 22.5 kHz and the middle frequency was stable, smooth with accurate vdi's. I will try my SEF testing again when I can spend time running through the frequencies again at Rx 15 / boost on & other tests for stability. Preferably in more than one location due to varying EMI conditions.
It's disappointing to hear people are getting "bad" SEF for the Spectras. It would be relevant to have the bad ones tested on a single Spectra by someone who has an SEF 12"x10" that tested "good" and perform the tests all in the same location his/her coil tested "good". Eliminate the obvious variables.
I don't think any one in Bulgaria is hooking these up to a Whites Spectra and report back to his comrades "Eh! Serge, pull this one from da shipment to Amerika. Don't kavech, now do it and bring more samples!"

I can say that when I hooked both of mine up they overloaded and had horrible stability issues. One of them was intermittent telling me that the insulated coil windings must have had thin insulation that abraded from shipment or thermal expansion/contraction. I repeat that all of my Whites v3i coils behaved perfectly. The D2, the 4x6, the 5.3 and the super 12 all allowed full use without any issue. There where absolutely no variables left to try. I wish I had got a good one. I could see a hint of what it would have been capable of.

I'm on my second 15x12 White SEF. This one is a tad more stable than the first. I don't ever seem to get overloads unless I am running TX boost in a noisy area, that said it can get a bit jumpy with the EMF (lots of falsing).

The settings I can usually run at are RX 8, DS 92, AM 70. If it's too noisy I will back the DS down to 88. My experience has been that the bigger the coil, the less hot you can run it, but that's certainly not scientifically based. I tend to be able to run my D2 in these same areas at around 10/92/70 and this I believe gets similar (or slightly better) depth but covers a larger area per swing.

I do notice it gets noisier after it gets warmer (shade vs direct sun). I am reasonably happy with it, and my intention for having the big coil is for field coverage, so EMI isn't usually an issue.

It sounds like some of the White sef coils where manufactured properly and it is a crap shoot as to which one a person will get. I hope to hear Kelly co step up and test each coil and demand a better product from SEF. I would keep a close eye on a temperature sensitive coil, it will go out on you.

Big G, they could do all these things, and use the best materials, and still the null could be incorrect. JW told me the shipment of coils should be in this week. I will hold my judgment and review until I get one, soon I hope. A V3i and a 10x12 SEF that can run a high gain is a great combo.

I am new here, but have ordered a new vx 3. I downloaded the operators manual. On page 4-3 and 4-4 it says that the frequencies all come in at a different reading, but, when in multi freq mode, it normalizes them into a common VDI freqency. Each one is different by its self
