Okay, here's a freshwater-rig for about $60...

I took a RS/BH 1100 (about $30 on closeout from RadioShack) and housed the guts in a $30 "OtterBox" 3500. Add a spare set of headphones (we've all got 'em) a little silicone/elbow grease etc. and you've got a freshwater wading rig that will produce!

You'll have to do a little cutting and remove some of the back of the control housing to make it fit. Solder on new battery connecors.

First time out: 3 earrings, one busted ring, pendant, small brass bead, some coins and assorted junk... and this beach gets hunted hard. We were two of SIX hunters who showed that morning, so I feel lucky to have gotten anything.

Now I do have a water machine already, just wanted to see what could be done with this inexpensive machine.

Here's what it found the first time out:

Again, I'm not saying throw out your TigerShark and your Excalibur. This is just a way to get into water-hunting for a little cash.

just the other day i took a friend detecting with his radio shake detecter
(the one shown) his first beach find was an 800.00 w/g and diamond ring so it will find the good stuff too

Nothing spectacular but maybe enough to pay for itself... junk ring, 10k band, a pewter crucifix and a few coins. This beach gets thumped pretty hard too.
