Okay.... AT PRO Owners Association Question of the day

KCK

New member
How you guys like it after owning it for a few months?
Pros and Cons needed for decision.
Thanks in advance for contributing.

KCK... Search this forum. Guys are finding great things with them in heavy trash and iron. I think that speaks tons.

Wish I had the time to use it more. It is something special in the iron. Once you learn the AT Pro language it becomes a very competitive unit. It can hunt with the big dogs.

It's a great detector in iron infested areas, may not be the deepest, but in iron it's top notch!! I've been to some of my hunted out spots and have found stuff in or next to iron. I'm going back to all my old spots again. It definitly has a spot in my detector line up.

I have only owned the at pro for 2 wks now. But i can tell you as others have said...it is unmatched in iron infested areas.....also...not sure that it is the depest seeking unit..but time will tell. Although i have found 22cal lead at 4-6".

Pros

Waterproof.
Stock coil can cover a lot of ground.
Iron audio can be useful at times.
Notch discrimination.
Quick response.
Quick recovery time.
Quick sweep.
Target separation.

Cons

Balance, ergonomics, not heavy but weight poorly distributed. (buy a Gizmo extension to correct)
Visual target ID drops out to soon. (5" to 6" on coin avg.)
No threshold.
40 points of iron discrimination to much, only 20 to 25 would be adequate leaving more scale open for the goodies.
Coil connection to control box and headphones.
Special AT-Pro only headphone connection.
Would probably go deeper with a 10 or 12 kHz setup than the 15 kHz that it has in my mild soil.
Ground balancing stubborn.

I have had the MD for only 2 weeks, but I have been out with it almost everyday. In the woods, tot lot and fresh water beach.
The waterproof feature is the most important to me.

I will keep it my arsenal.

Good hunting

Denny

Mine still suprises me...Now that being said. I wish I could finer tune my my pro. I want to notch out a specific VID numbers. lol. What about a md that does not look for any iron (no low tones).
I have no reason to look for iron. I am really interested in silver coins and jewlry. OK, wishful thinking. The pro is great. I would like a larger coil like a 10x14

On the day the AT PRO was born
The :garrett: employees all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head engineer spoke up
"leave this one alone"
He could tell right away
That It was bad to the bone

Getting better with every outing.

Last night I ran my AT Pro while my buddy used his E-Trac. We always have each other check signals and the AT Pro hit every signal the E-Trac did. Not as solid on the target ID end, but it did hit them all.

I'm finding it to be great in heavy trash areas....went to a local park the other day...lots and lots of trash...so much trash had a hard time finding a area to gb in...anyways I didn't have any trouble picking out good targets from trash...still dug a little foil and a few bottle tops...but very little...found more then a few coins hiding under the trash..
