I found a really nice necklace today near a school. It's a large pink stone that may be an Amythest and the clasp on the chain it marked "4K". Is there such a thing as 4K? I never heard of such a thing. I checked very carefully to make sure it wasnt 14, but it definately says 4. So set me straight you guys. (pictures later today).

Hey MrGee, I'm not a pro but they do make 4k jewelry it has a low content of gold, the lower the K the less gold it has, but saying that it's also more durable more of a alloy mixed metal , hank

Probably just a weak or worn stamp. I've never heard of gold for jewelry purposes lower than about 9K. Test it or have it tested. My money is on 14K. Congrats!

You were right cwilk. When I took another look under a strong light, the 1 in 14 is there, but very faint. Good call. I'll get some pics and post them because I'm not likely to have it long.. I have a lot of female relatives and it's a really nice necklace and even the chain is intact..

The reason they don't make gold under about 9k is because it stops looking like gold when the percentage of alloy is that high. 4k gold would look a lot like copper, or whatever metal the alloy it with. I see there is another thread that I will look at now. Can't wait to see your find!
