First all I am new to the whole metal detecting seen and new to this forum. For the H-Days I given a MXT with a 950 coil in mint condition. At same time, just before H-Days I went out and got my self a GMT. So here is the question

I'd add either the 4X6 shooter or the 5.3 to the MXT. I have both and they are a great improvement in trashy areas over the 9.5. The 5.3 has the depth advantage and can serve as a general use coil compared to the 4X6, but the 4X6 will outshine it in heavy trash. If you're thinking of coils without White's incentive, similar sizes in the Excelarator line from Kellyco are good bets as well.
My two bits,
BB

I don't know the soil conditions in your area, so I don't know if you need a DD coil. You will at some time need a smaller coil. You said you had older homes to hunt. I usually don't need the smallest coils to hunt these because for me they aren't that trashy. As Bob said the 5.3 and 4x6 are your choices in Whites coils. Parks, concession stands, bleachers, and sidelines are where these coils are needed to get in between the bottle caps, tabs and screw caps.

Everyone's hunting is different. For me most of the time I get away with a 10" and 6" coil. Both of these are DD coils. Remember, this is for my soil conditions. Rob

Well Mark, you do live in gold country and since you do I would recommend two coils for your MXT. The first and I think most important coil if you plan on prospecting with the MXT is the 6 X 10 DD Eclipse and second coil I would start out with is the 4 X 6 Eclipse DD shooter, both these are great coin, relic, jewelry, and prospecting coils and in your area you will need mineralization canceling ability's which both these have and you really don't need a coil for deep hunting because you have shallow bedrock in your area. And with your GMT you only have two choices for extra coils, if it came with the standard coil for the GMT then you have the 6 X 10 Goldmaster DD it is the main prospecting coil you will need, But if you want to cover more ground then you will want the 8 X 14 eliptical Gold Max, and if you are going to hunt around rocky out crops then the Goldmaster 4 X 6 DD shooter would be the weapon of choice. But which ever way you go you won't go wrong because you have two great detectors for the area of California you live in. I would give my eye teeth to own property in Placerville. Good luck..........

I wish to thank everybody for there inputs, it has been a great help. So here is what I ended up doing. Given I am told the 950 coil that came with my MXT is not near as good as the new 10" DD Coil and they retail for $249.95 I will get that for my $99 bucks. Then on the side will buy a 4x6 DD for the trash areas. Again thanks for everybody
