Depression Glass

Heavy glassware tthat was made during the Depression era. It was made of inexpensive, recycled glass, and so was often coloured. Pink, blue, green, yellow, amber, are common colours. It was sold in five and dime stores, or given away as premiums or included with other purchases of gasoline, cereal or soap. for example, some sets were sold containing peanut butter and when the peanut butter was gone, you had another glass to add to the set.

Some sets came with many different peices to be collected, tea cups, glasses, fancy goblets, dinner plates, dessert plates, sugar bowls, fruit bowls, punch bowls, juice pitchers, candle stick holders, butter dishes....etc...

There were several dozen different manufactures of this glassware throughout the country and many different designs, typically flowers---roses, orchids, water lilies, iris, lily-of-the-valley. You used to often see pieces at yard sales and auctions, though in the last 10 to 15 years Depression glass has become very collectable and it is gett harder to find and much more expensive.
(a list of manufacturers here: http://www.suziemax.com/Depression-Glass.html )

The leaf and flower design on your peice looks like a lily motif. Hard to tell if the bowl in the pic below is an exact match, but it would be close to what you are looking for:

>> This is a very nice iridescent large curved lily bowl in the Beaded Block pattern. It measures 5 1/2" across the top and 3" deep. It was made by the Imperial Glass Co. 1927-1930's. It is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, nicks, etc.. A great vintage piece of Depression Glass.<<

Thanks for posting!
