Ok what do you guys do for the screen glare from the cover?

I hate to admit this...but my detectors get extremely dirty...mud...dirt...whatever...yesterday...before our fresh 4 inches of snow today... I noticed my coil looked like i was dragging around a pile of mud...and I could no longer see the screen due to dirt and glare on the cover...is there a way to tint cover...doubt changing contrast will help the plastic sun reflection...

Gregg, I never did like the cover but if it works for you, that is fine. I used clear overlay over my screen and I cut a piece of that thin plastic notebook folder about the size of the width of the control box, long enough so that it can be adjusted and put it between 2 pieces on velcro on top of the control box, that way I can move the piece so to shield the screen. Sometimes a lower contrast setting does better also, so the screen doesn't go into saturation. That piece of thin plastic notebook( you can get it in a wide variety of colors) folder measures approx.
5 1/4" X 5".

Kinda being facetious but that is the easiest way to see the screen I've found yet.

Everything gets pretty muddy for me too. You're not alone.

I left the plastic that came on it on the screen until it started to fall off then put on a PDA protector to protect the screen since dirt gets everywhere for me too. I use the environmental cover at the beach or if it's precipitating at all or I'm at the beach. Can be hard to see the screen but if I have it on digital it's easier than trying to find that cursor. Sure wish there were other cursor options. Since I'm usually running wide-open in all-metal, I'd like a dark block cursor option. Be a lot easier to find than that little cross-hair box.

I keep meaning to try that plastic glare-shield-on velcro Steve recommended but haven't gotten around to it yet though. But did get some velcro in right before I left on vacation last week so now all I need to do is find some of that thin black plastic.

The contrast adjustment will only help so much, but the sun glare will overwhelm it. I always have used the weather protector and yes the screen is glared by sun but never use the machine without it...just my opinion...I have had the xs for at least 6-7 years and when I take the protector off to rinse it I cannot beleive how new the screen still looks......That being said....I had a new thought.....why I have not tried it yet is beyond me....But on my XS there is a button on front screen I can push and the screen gets bigger.....hence...bigger curser better visability?....I am going to try it next time out. Not sure if SE has that also...but I am sure it does.

when you enlarge the digital numbers...all the other readings are gone...so the numbers can be seen that way ...but it does not work the best for me..

I'd be happy w/ that if it left the depth indicator on.

I read on another forum that if you stretch a piece of black or any dark color pantyhose over the screen that it will help with the glare

Wear polorized sunglasses. No glare. Thats why fishermen wear them because you do not see the reflection of the water, you can see in the water.

Interesting...will have to check them out... Last year I wore sunglasses all the time...then figured out I was getting headaches from wearing them all the time....but I will have to check them out...thanks!

Are you familiar with the screen cover that can be replaced on the XLT( just a thin piece of plastic with sticky edges) and feel your DFX should be the same..Pick one of these up from a Whites dealer very inexpensive and shave a hair off each side and it will protect your expensive Explorer screen and above all do away with the reflection of those vatrous covers they make both Sunray and Minelab.Works my friend been there done that....Dan
