Wish I could say it was mine, but I'm posting this for a friend. I figure the pics are clear enough, and there should be enough left of the coin for proper i.d.'ing. Any takers??
thanks!
Andy

Better look a little closer...it's definitely a copy. You can clearly see it and when compared to my picture, there's no doubt.

I just now dug this one out and took this picture. I had to look all over to find where I put it.

I found it a few years ago down in the Outer Banks, with my Fisher CZ-70. I was actually hunting the base of an old shipwreck keel that's visible on the beach near Corolla. I found it about 8" down and from the signal, I figured it was quarter-sized. I about dropped a load in my pants when I saw it, until I turned it over and saw "Copy". Man, was I disappointed. I looked around to see if I was being punked but there was nobody else in sight. When I hit the convenience store on my way home right after I left the beach there was a little container full of them at the checkout...$1.99 each.

Looks to be the same as your to me...mine's just in better shape.

......that I didn't notice "COPY"!!! Even with my limited spanish silver knowledge, I sure know to look for that first! :) But I now know what distracted me from that. Before he cleaned the find at all, it was crustier and pitch black, as silver often is. I know it doesn't look quite like silver in the pics, but that's largely because of the lighting. So I think the one saving grace may be that while it is a copy, it at least may be a silver copy. Don't the Fisher folks and others do silver repros??
thanks again!
Andy

It's possible it could be silver, but I think it's pot metal. Silver wouldn't be eaten up like that. Black, yes...eaten away, not likely. But he can call it a "brush with greatness" or a near-miss I guess. I've spent many hours on the beaches and found much gold and thousands of coins but I've never found a real Reale. Maybe one day...
