OK... some more C$ questions.

In my test garden on new clad it seems I get a range and not a lock on ID - so how do you know when it's a quarter for sure or say 98% sure. In comparsion does the Edge lock on ?

Also, laying a square nail next to a quarter nulls out the quarter in disc mode, every fourth sweep you might get a ding - i did notice though if the nail is about 1/2" to 1" away from the quarter then no problems - so my question then becomes how do you dig coins out of heavy iron? How does the Edge do in comparison with the sq nail test?

I do like how the C$ picks out a dime, almost a double ding everytime and seems like it will be able to pick out a dime at some depth.

On to nickles, how am I going to find buff nickles - I've owned 4 different md and I've never found a buff nickel - any suggestions?

It seems my major learning gap right now is that targets don't lock on and I'm used to other detectors that do lock on and then I know for sure it's a dig as compared to some jumping around then it's prolly trash.

squeezing ranges into a preset "notch". On a lot of detectors, a group of ID's will be bunched into the "coins" bracket. This gives the impression of more stability. The Coinstrike gives a real time ID on each sweep, so the averaging and probability of a good target is up to the user. For example, if in 10 sweeps, I get high tone and a reasonable spread of ID numbers (like within 10 digits), 8 out of the 10 sweeps, I've got a good idea the target is a good target either deep, near trash, or in mineralized soil.

Nickels are really odd (old ones), because around here they may range in ID quite a bit on all detectors (depending on how deteriorated they are). Tony NC is our resident nickel expert on the C$ :poke: (hehe)

angle of coin and depth may play a factor. The numbers may fluctuate a few numbers back and forth, but usually they are pretty close. Also are you running the averaging feature? this may also cause a fluctuation in numbers as well.

Now the only suggestion I can give on buff nickels is change where you hunt, because if you have tried 4 different machines and haven't found a buff nickel then they aren't where your hunting. I've had numerous machines and hunted several places and have only found a couple the last 4-5 years.

Real time numbers. If you are getting a large spread of numbers, then you are sweeping too slow. Speed up your sweep a bit until you get a good lock.

If you want to sweep slower then turn averaging on. It is still sweep speed dependant, but you can get away with a little slower sweep.

Once you get the sweep down, you'll find it locks pretty good or gives a tighter number range.
