OK, so this time I got IN the water...

with the ATP and made a few finds. Nothing earth shattering, but I do have some observations. You CAN get it wet!! I dunked it and dunked it and it worked just fine. I do believe I will be switching to the 6 x 9 for actual in-the-freshwater hunting though. The DD is really hard to push through the water in the shallows. Once I got it about control box high, it was a bit easier. And all the bottlecaps drove me nuts!! I did retrieve a few, just to make sure, but I wanted to scoop them all, that high tone is just so inviting in the Pro Zero mode. In the exposed lakebeds I have been hunting, it was no problem to dig 'em, even tho I was sure what they were, but in waist deep water and a rocky clay lakebottom, it's a waste of time and it leaves you guessing if you have left a good keeper behind. Another observation: you can tighten the headphones too tight. I had put a thin layer of silicone grease on the threads and the connector seal and then replaced the 'phones. I wanted to make sure no water got in there so I made sure it was good and tight. When I submerged the connector, the farther it went under the water, the quieter it got. When I took a break, I turned the ATP off, but still had my 'phones on. I was piddling with the connector and I could hear even the slightest tap on it in my 'phones, even with the ATP off. So, I backed the connector up until my touch no longer elicited a response and then it worked fine!! Here's another that we all knew...the ATP floats. That's good and bad!! The good is you can let go of it to help retrieve targets. The bad is, once you get the control box under the water, it's like trying to wrastle an octopus 'cause it wants to float.
All in all tho, I enjoyed myself and the first real water hunt of the season. I managed a couple of junk rings and a few coins and learned a few thing about the ATP, so it's all good!! Now I just gotta find me a 6 x 9 coil!!

Here's the take!!

i bet that water is nice and hot...almost like a hot bath  I see a couple of rings looking back at me in the face. You sure are having a good year ring wise.

Pardon my ignorance, but why will the 6 x 9 coil make hunting in the water easier? Thanks, Skip.
