OK, one last candle photo

I tried a less reflective piece of wood for the background and then added a few more objects to make it more challenging. As you can see there are harsh shadows that obscure some of the detail on the cuff-links and ring. I think a taller candle would help reduce the angle of the shadows. Also, I didn't notice the distortion in the watch lens until I started editing the photo. Man, playing with this digital camera almost makes cabin fever bearable. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

What were your roundabout settings; aperture, shutter speed etc? You may be right about the taller candle and the shadowing but I'm not sure you'll get the overall lighting you need to show the items as nicely as the shorter candle does. Plus, I think the shadowing gives it character and depth. Nice pic indeed.

Crop the top edge just above the pocket watch, the bottom edge just below the coins and the right edge just to the outside of the knife. That would make the shadows of the rings totally irrelevant and provide a great space for lighter lettering or a logo at the far left!
I don't know HOW to do it yet...but I think it's a pretty cool idea! Someone try and let's see. Maybe Guv will even use it somewhere...or you could copyright it!
