I don't have all the answers but......
When you scan your pictures and you can also just lay the coin or other artifact on the scanner, just scan them at 75 dpi. You have to keep the bit size down so you can post them.
If you don't do that you must use a software photo program to shrink the bit rate. Usually you can keep it under 50k. YOu will have to check with your software to see how to do that.
Then you will need a place on the web to upload your picture to. I think AOL just might have a spot you can use. I don't know. You upload the picture to this place and then when you want to post the picture, you just link it to the storage spot.
It is easy but takes a number of steps. Start with scanning the picture and resize it. First you want to cut its physical size to about 4 or 5 inches and then save it as a low quality jpg. See what size you end up with.
Maybe someone else can help you with the storage site

picture in photoshop or what ever photo program you use, do a save as and save it as a LOW QUALITY jpg. You will not see a difference on the puter between a high quality and a low quality but it will load a lot faster.
If you are scanning something like a bullet or ring or coin, crop it down as small as you can in your photo program. The bit size has to be as small as possible. Do not post a picture that is huge!
The first thing to do is adjust the picture the way you want it. Crop it to get only the item you want for posting. Go up and resize it to maybe 4inches or so. Then do a save as and then the low quality thing. When you have saved it, go to the file and left click on it. Click on properties and it will tell you what bit size it is. If it comes up a 100 k or something, you can make it smaller.
