Ok, I was just asking are most using a large coil as main coil.

I just got this Explorer II with a 10" 1000 and I was thinking of getting a Sunray X8 for my main coil and now I'm thinking about getting the 13" Ultimate first and then an X8 or 6" coil for more trashy areas. I'm hearing the 13" coil is doing a pretty good job in iron trash .

I don't know. Just trying to figure out which coils to get. I already have other detectors with 8" concentric coils that are doing great in iron trash. So maybe I only need the 13" coil.

I'm just having a hard time understanding how anybody could be using a large coil in iron. I know they are designed with better separation. Just rattling on.

I've got 5", 8", 10", and 12.5" DD coils for my SE, and I've found the 8" & 10" to be the most versitile. The big coil misses too much to masking unless the ground is pretty clean, and the 5" doesn't get great depth but does well in high density trash.

If I were you,I'd probably go for an 8". All else equal, a DD coil will always out perform a concentric in highly mineralized soil. So if your 8" concentrics on your other detectors are doing well, the DD should do better.

Oh! And FWIW, I'm a Rick in Mi too.

5" or 6" coil to pick through the trash.

The smaller coils will be so much more effective in trash than an 8" coil...you will be amazed at what you have previously missed!

The stock to larger sized coils I mentioned will amaze you at how well they separate and do in iron....and with a small coil added...you will have an awesome one-two punch.

It's nice to have a variety of coils to use in different situations. I have the SEF 10X12, stock 11" Pro coil, Sunray X-8 and Sunray X-5. And they all get used ..
