Ok, I received my new Edge ID today, anybody have any ideas on how to get the coil cover on?

Man, is it tight! I can get 1/2 of it on, either the top 1/2 or the bottom 1/2, but that's all! I am open to suggestions, I don't want to break the darn coil cover before I even get the detector outside!
Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

If you can't get it on without breaking it then it will be next to impossible to get it off for cleaning too. I have always used a stick lubricant made for car door hinges called Door-Eze. Its a semi solid and stays in place even when wet. Coat all the mating surfaces on the cover and you should have no problem.

I take a knife and a file and go around the coil, everywhere the coil cover touches. Clean up the rough edges that epoxy has. And then do the cover.<BR> I have 2 - 8"coil covers, one is thin plastic and the other one is twice as thick. I like the thin ones the best, because they are easy to remove.I have taking off the thick ones and not be able to get it back on..HH...BJ

I always make about 6 relief cuts on my coil covers (Fisher Only) 4 on the outside edge and 2 on the inside ring edge. It may allow a little more dirt inbetween the coil & cover, but it makes it a might easier to get off and clean.

to keep mineralization/black sand out. (Unlike some other brands that fill with dirt, but I won't mention any names) This can really make a sensitive unit chatter, or not even balance in some cases, so personally I don't use them. There's enough thick epoxy there & I have never come close to wearing through a coil....

I have had many Fisher's and this is what works for me. Yesterday when I got my ID Edge I laid the coil cover cover on my kitchen table. Then you take the coil and set it on top of the coil cover. Tap with your fist all the way around the cover and it will just snap into place.

It seems to be easier to take the coil to the cover instead of trying to hold the cover and put it on.

Hope this makes since. No getting them off is a different story.
