I got a old house to detect,(my first Old house)they are going to tear it down, it has been all grown up with grass, weeds, trees, bushes for years, last week they took a front end loader and cleared it all out along with about 1.5 inches of soil, My question is what coil do I start with, I have a 4", 8" and 14dd
and what mode with a Fisher F4? Do I just hit the high tones ?

I think the house was built about 1880, I don't know about gold coin or not, don't even know what a gold coin would read on a F4

Would love to hear your thoughts

thats allot of years of buildup. Bound to be allot of signals. I don't know how much time you have but I would run through it with the 14 on high discriminate and dig all the high tones then turn down the discriminate, put on the 8" and go for it all. If too trashy then put on the 4". Doesn't sound like you are going to have allot of time so I would grid it off using some yard flag markers from Home Depot or Lowes so you can be reasonably sure you have covered the area pretty well. I don't use a Fisher so I can't help you there. I am near Dallas if you want a hand but I surely understand wanting to keep that place to Yourself.
