OK, I Have The NEW Ultimate Beach Hunting Night Light

I was out picking up some bicycling stuff today in this bike store called "Freewheelin' Bike Shop" (On Virginia Beach Boulevard for you locals) and my eye was caught by a selection of nice accessory lights for night riding. They were mostly the LED type and looked hi-tech and compact and naturally I thought about detecting. I asked them if they had anything that was waterproof. In fact, they did! And it has a ratchet-clamp lock for going around a bike frame tube that just happens to work like a champ on the Excal shaft. And since it's waterproof, no worries if it gets wet. Further, it puts out mad light and runs for a staggering 140 hours on 3 AAA batteries...INCLUDED. All for the price of $29.95. And the light itself has a quick-release latch that allows you to slide it off of it's mount and use it as a flashlight, to see those jeweler's marks on all those gold rings. I think this is going to be very cool. I'll be heading out for the maiden voyage at around 0100 hours...that's 1 AM for you landlubbers.

Here are some pics of it. (Minelab Excalibur not required, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

There's probably shipping involved, but with gas prices what they are, might be worth ordering online. I was gonna order one tonight, but I'm over my sweeties and her 'puter is the pits and all see has is Internet Explorer, too easily hacked.

Ok, I hunted with it for almost 5 hours and had it on pretty much non-stop. The light was awesome. I was hunting the wet sand and shallow water and it threw down a nice swath of light. What was really cool was that in the white-water of the incoming surf it was like my coil was cutting through the water riding on a cushion of bright white light and the water around it was illuminated...it was really quite cool. And I could see a lot of things I normally can't...like dips, ripples, the shell line...rocks, crabs. It's good to be able to see! ;) I also used the quick release to remove the light from the mounting clip several times and use it as a flashlight to inspect finds...very nice. ANd it got wet several times...no problems. It stayed solidly fixed on the shaft and the batteries seemed unaffected after almost 5 hours. I don't know if I mentioned that it has a strobe function too, where the light flashes. I ran that for a while and I thought I was in a disco...started singing "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gee's.

So in closing, I highly recommend this light.

Nope...it's got a little ratchet-lock ring that's made for a bicycle handlebar, but it can be adapted to go on the shaft your detector by loosening a screw and turning the top mount and re-tightening it.

But given your ability to "MacGyver" stuff, I'm sure you'll find a way to attach it to your hat. :)
