Ok, I have a waterproof detector, a scoop,a wetsuit and gloves and a cool dragbasket!

Now how do I locate places to hunt? (freshwater) I live on the Gulf of mexico lot's o saltwater but as far as i know no real lakes to swim except one.( i went there sun. it's brackish) I know somebody's gonna think this is a dumb question, but i don't care. I've gone on the internet for my area and the county dosen't even list which parks have swimming areas for that matter they don't even show a list of the parks.

I'd start chatting with some of the older folks about where they used to go swimming back in the day. Any place that had a swim raft or a water slide would be a gold mine just waiting for you to hunt it. Think about where you go for a dip now and where people used to go swimming when you were a kid. These are all great starting points. The research part of the hunt is a big part of the fun.

Good Hunting,

After a quick 5 minute search on Google Earth, there is not any lakes in the immediate area of Magnolia Springs. i found a couple places on the River that looks like it may have an area for swimming, but that is like you said brackish.

What I did find if you go west on 98 and then south on 59 you are 17 miles from the gulf shore. I pulled a couple pics. off of Google Earth and I think everyone would agree this looks like a place they would spend some serious hunt time . I would love to be 17 miles from such a place.

On a day with low waves you can even use your sifter. HH

until you take into account the 2.2 BILLION tons of sand(no, I'm not making this up) that they pumped in after the last two hurricanes.(your tax dollars at work!) From where the board walk is they extended the beach +150 yards into the surf. As far as waterhunting goes, unless you can catch a new drop it's gone. This is why I got a freshwater machine as opposed to a Minelab or PI unit. The only really good day is 4th of july (dry sand)when the beach is overpacked. But I do thank you for the help and from a glance it looks like a MD paradise. Most of the guys locally goto bloixi,MS or Pensacola Beach, Fla. Hit or miss hunting over the last 12 years has netted me a dixiecup's worth of good stuff.
I wish some of the "ring kings" would come on vaction down here so I would know if I stink or it's just the area. But I do thank you for the help.

HH
