Just getting started with detectors and have followed Whites products for awhile. The DFX seems to have my name on it, but is there another brand that beats the Whites in performance?

Too new, also a little to hard for someone new to the hobby to enjoy. My two cents...I started with a tesoro golden saber 2. Then went out and bought just about everything, lol.

" RED HERRING" ....When ice fishing, these are used for bait...Not fit for eating, garbage and even animals will not eat this fish...So what this person is saying is...Minelab is a far better machine.....

..but, mine works super, Got the ring the first time out with the Super 12 on it and got the chain with the 9.5 coil.

I think people who think the DFX does not work on the beach ( wet or dry sand) has either never used on, or does not know how to set it up properly.

It's not water proof, but it is a damn good beach machine.

You should take a long hard look at the M6 or the MXT. Great prices, super depth, super easy to use, just turn on an go. In MHO these are the 2 best metal detectors for the money made today. Thats my story and I am sticking to it. Welcome to the forum.

I've had the MXT for two months now. After a year and a half of research on it, I found that it's the best all round detector to go with and I'm glad I did. You will not go wrong with the MXT. Easy to use and great on finds. JMHO

I must say I am interested in the ML machine I hear good things about it and I hope to try one out this year... Maybe even get one.

My best tip is to go to a dealer and try out a few machines.

DFX and E-trac are both good from what I hear. I have a DFX.

What littletwig said is true . DFX has a learning curve to it that is a little large for some new to the sport tryed one loved it one day hated it the next.I could not spend enough time with it to get used to it.M6 out of the box and go hunt Have fun and God Bless.

What is your budget? I would advise you to buy a used Classic ID, IDX or IDX pro for your first detector. Prices range from $175 to $250 These are great detectors with tons of coils that fit. Plus if you decide detecting is not for you then sell it and get all your money back.
