OK GUYS--WHATS THE BEST TESORO FOR COINSHOOTING?

Thought I'd modify Semperfi's post a little.

Most would agree V or Tejon for relics, but what about coins?

Mike Hillis has posted a very good presentation on the Golden, hereabouts...

And the Tabdog's acclaim for the Compadre is very impressive.

The Vaquero serves those in need of manual GB very well.

Cortes and DeLeon give you visual assist.

I hope to try a Silver uMax, soon. It is legendary.

Depends on what your preferences are. I can find few flaws in the Tesoro lineup.

Unless one needs manual ground balance regularly, I think a person would be very well served with the Compadre, the Silver, or the Cibola, depending on how much one wants to spend. The Silver and the Ciblola do have the interchangeable coil options which is a plus, although if one gets the fittings, the Compadre can be modified for that purpose. My two bits.

I do have a question. How do you descrim out the zincs? I am guessing take one of the newer zincers and a pre 82 pennie. Then adjust until the zincer does not read? Just wondering really, Beale.

I just know where where the zink pennies hit on the discriminator.

I have a Vaquero, Euro Sabre, Compadre and a Silver Sabre uMax.
Each one has a little different discrimination point for zink pinnies.
Even the markings are different. The markings are gone from my
Compadre, but it doesnt matter. I don't look at the markings. I just
look at the possition of the mark on the knob. I'm oblivious to what's
behind it.

Copper hits higher on the discriminator. Copper pennies are closer to
dimes than they are to clad pennies.

HH,

A very true statement!! :clapping: I would, however, say that the Golden uMAX is an excellent coin machine. It has worked well for me during the short time I've had it. HH TonyTX :clapping: :tesoro:

Thanks Tabdog! That is what I thought. I know on my X-70 they hit at a higher number, Beale.

That's simple its the silver

They say it could be a Indian Head, but I've never found one.

I don't pass up zink pennies because you can never be sure.

It could be caused by ground effect.

HH,

Especially when oldies are possible. I've had too many wheaties ID as zinc with other detectors. A little corrosion and they drop down in conductivity.

Three of the several large boys class rings I've found that ID as zincs. Returned the others I found and the owner of the middle ring in the photo, he lives in California now, is supposed to pick it up when he visits his folks here. No luck in finding the owners of the other two.

An even better reason for not skipping zincs. 18 kt with 1.5 kt's of crushed diamonds, appraised at over $1500 six or seven years ago. Huge ring, seated quarter is to show how big it is. Found with a Tesoro Golden Sabre II.
