Any of you V3i users use the meteorite program for hunting meteorites?? I know those things have been falling all over the world since the beginning of time and I am anxious to get to some of these farm fields this season and give it a whirl. Matter of fact this is one of the main reasons I wanted this machine. Anyways just checking, Tim

You really have to be in an area where they can be found. I don't know where you are located but I don't live in a meteorite rich environment. If they are there and not super deep the V3i is as capable as any of the best VLF detectors.

Meteorites sell for high prices because they are RARE. Good luck.

Hi BigTim1973--

I live close to a meteor crater. During WW2 many of the LARGE meteorites were recoverd for the iron for the war effort. I have a friend who was detecting 25 years ago and he and his friends dug and sold over 500 pounds of meteorites. Now the crater is a Park and the surrounding areas are off-limits. I have tested the meteorite program on 5+ pound meteorites and smaller ones and in my opinion they gave good strong signals. We have been trying to get permission to detect some of the ranches surrounding the crater but to no avail.

Best of luck and...

Thanks Squirrel for the input. There are large fields all over here in Middle TN and I know of 2 guys who have just stumbled across them while walking on the creeks around here looking for arrowheads and stuff. I know there are some around here but they are going to be off in the pastures, fields out in the open and such and are probably deep like the civil war bullets get here in certain soils. I grew up in Texas and my 2 older brothers saw one come down and actually heard it hit in our front cow pasture. Well now unfortunalely it no longer belongs to the family but hey, it goes to show you they land everywhere!!! I just bought 3 unclassified ones off of flea bay this week and I got them in today. So tomorrow I am going to get out the Vision and see how it re acts and what kind of numbers pop up on the screen. I know I have probably a bigger chance of finding other relics out in these fields but I am going to give it a shot anyways. Tim

Best of luck to you BigTim1973. It would be great to see a picture of one of your dug meteorites on this forum.
