Ok guys Compadre vs. Mojave :poke:

C.J.M.

Well-known member
Cannot seem to find the post topic on which detector is the best all around between the compadre and the mojave appreciate your answers:please:Thank you-cjm:blink:

No bigger fan of the Compadre than me, I have written a million words about it and I was the one that coined the phrase "Church of the Compadre".
My Mojave, however, does everything my Compadre can do at least as well but most things it can do better.
It is definitely deeper by several inches in my rough dirt...I would have been thrilled with just one extra inch but I got more than that.
Haven't even started to add extra coils to mine, that might be very interesting and way fun.

Either one is worth their price, the extra money for the Mojave gives you more options that holds high value to me.
Overall the Mojave can perform better because it has the options and features to help it perform better in more type of sites.
For general hunting and aiming for targets at normal depths up to 6" especially in decent dirt either should work fine.
I just don't happen to hunt in normal dirt so my Mojave gets the call nowadays.

I made a huge mistake trading my Mojave for a TreasureMaster. At least I still have my Amigo II.

Tried an 8 x 11 inch Epsilon DD on the Mojave......Depth on most Aussie coins is about + 3 inches on the standard 7 inch concentric, and of course ground coverage is much better. Discrimination is not as accurate as with the concentric but is OK. Pinpointing is a bit tricky on small targets close to the coil that can cause double beeps. Over all it is a nice coil in the more mineralised grounds and less trashy areas.

Thanks, man!
I live in the SE. in Birmingham Ala, we have mineralization in the black stuff but I also have the red clay soil.
Hematite is our state mineral and I happen to live over an extremely rich and thick deposit, (the largest), that runs North and South for miles and more miles as it moves NE. out to the border of my state into the next one.
Old mines all over the place that dug the ore that the massive iron and steel industries used to build this whole city back to the 1800s.
Then we have a bunch of slag from those steel industries that was moved and deposited all over in the fill dirt used to build the city and neighborhoods and add in the normal iron and junk you find at old homesites, most everywhere we hunt there used to be old knocked down homes and neighborhoods.
When I say my dirt is rough I mean it.

I have seen some pretty remarkable things the Mojave can do in my devil dirt and the smaller snipers are what I use most of the time but if I do decide to get a bigger coil The 8x11 would probably be the one.

Again, thanks for the report!

I bought a Cors 8x11 coil for my Mojave and only used it one day. Thing was too front end heavy. Made life miserable to swing. I hope the Tesoro made 8x11 is lighter.

The Tesoro white 8 x 11 DD does upset the balance slightly but not enough to be a problem; It weighs only 466 g (approx)
The Tesoro 7 inch concentric weight is 337 g.(approx). I say approx because I would imadine that there will be slight differences between coils due to fillers and shielding.
Only 129 g difference.

The Mojave does not perform well over high iron mineralisation, although I was surprised to discover that it can detect my wedding ring through 3.5 cm of solid ironstone with either coil. I will say though that the Mojave is not a machine that I would rely on in the gold fields. It is a really a coin relic and jewellery detector for use in neutral to moderate ground mineralisation.

Is it an entry level metal detector? Well I guess so. On the other hand I have worked my way through close to 60 different detectors and have detected in all conditions imaginable and yet here I am having a great fun time and finding a lot of stuff with the Mojave.

That's easy. Mojave -

Mine works pretty darn good in the SE. mineralization we have here, it can skillfully move in and around iron and gets deeper than my Compadre in the same dirt.
There is a marked and noticeable difference between them and how they perform.
It actually shocked me at his well it handles the iron mineralization.
Not sure why you had a different experience but we do have different dirt so maybe that is the thing.

I have 7 tesoros and 3 of them are compadres so I think that means I'm holding strong with that little wonder BUT I hear the Mojave is pretty sweet too,,, is it sweeter than mah vaquero hmm hmm hmm we'll have to wait till I get mah hands on one.

I'm sure the Mojaves can still be had out there. But being maybe the last model Tesoro launched, could start to get scarce. I know some people can worry about warranty's, but what about just finding someone to repair them at all. Now Tesoro is gone.

I have an old 7" coil Compadre and I am at least the third owner...could be way more than that.
I beat it up good sometimes, it doesn't seem to care and works as well, or better, than any new one I have ever held or seen.
I have a Mojave now too, not gentle with that one, either.

I ain't worried, they build tanks and if one day I do need service I am sure some repair center will pick up the slack and fill the service vacuum if Tesoro truly goes away forever.
