YEAH, me 3, COME ON guys and/or gals, a little help here!:please::confused: I thought about getting an SEF too, either the 10 X 12, or the 12 X 15, but Larry/IL says that they are h-e-a-v-y. I know I can compensate for the weight by shortening the lower shaft into the upper, (I do that and am able to MD longer with my Super 12 that way) and just holding my DX-1 w/1 clamp instead of both. Thanks for looking and HH KC OH , also I found my first silver rosie this am(a 1960)

MXT,DX-1 +4 coils

Sorry, I can't help with the coils. I have used many coils, but my favorite is still the stock coil and the small 5.3". That's great that you found a Rosie dime. One of many to come. Way to go!!! HH, Nancy

I use the 10X12 and it is not that much heavier than stock to fret much about. I haven't used the larger SEF coils, but from reading other posts from those who use them, they report they are much heavier. I don't know right off hand what that means in pounds and ounces, but that info might be available from Kellyco. I too would like to test a 6X8 and report back to you, but I'm not going to pay $150 for one. I agree with floridason on shortening the lower rod and using one DX-1 clamp, that combo works good for me too.

If you are already using the White's 6X10, I would guess the 6X8 SEF would be somewhat redundant. The same width and two inches shorter. Both are DD type coils and I wouldn't think much would be gained. I used the 6X10 for many years as my stock coil on the DFX and was very happy with it until I tried the 10" DD which gave me a little more depth. Both 10"DD loops, White's and EXcelerator perform about the same. Moving up to the 10X12 SEF gave me a little more coverage. Keep in mind that the smaller loops are better to use in very trashy sites.

Well, as is often the case, the original question should have qualified "best for what?" At any rate, IMHO the 6X10 is the most generally useful, all purpose of the DD coils. Has good, coverage, no holes to hang up in the brush, decent depth and weight and separates in trashy areas pretty well. My two bits.

ok guys, i got a 6x8 sef coil for my mxt. it works well on seperating targets, the weight is fine, the only thing i dont like is with my 5.3 eclipse quarters come in at 80+,
dimes 74+, pennies60+. the sef coil throws bottle caps in at my dime, quarter area. the 5.3 has them at the 50+ range. everything else seems to run high on vdi numbers.
merry christmas

On my 6x10dd, 10dd, and regular 9.5, the numbers are all the same. 86 for quarters, 90 for halves, 67 to 72 for pennies, 80 for dimes, 26 for pull tabs. 10 to 30 for gold rings, 45 to 75 for silver rings, 20 for nickles.....

I have the 6x10DD and love it!! Its the one i normally swing now. Big enough to cover a good amount of ground and shaped just right to get around the trash. I especially love it for chilrens play areas. I plan on picking up the 12x15 SEF this year and am looking forward to that! I feel between these two coils your pretty well covered!
