Well I'm still researching what to buy. I think this has been a harder decision for me than choosing my wife though. Monte, you have been a great help and you have almost talked me into sticking with a White of some sort. How can you ask for much more when you pull a 15 year old Classic SL out of the closet for the second time and it fires up and works perfectly. Anyway, I have located a Spectrum XLT locally in mint condition for around $350 with a hard shell case and a couple of other accessories with it. Monte, it looks like you swear by the XLT in some of the other post i've read. My question is me being a rookie is this going to be a suitable model for me to start learning with and what about the price????

Ken

The price is GREAT, and it may take ya a little while to learn, but it IS a great machine...I would snag it...
White's has stopped producing the XLT, but will most likely service them for years to come.

HH,

[size=large]if it's in mint condition it's a very good deal. the XLT affords you the ability to find treasure in factory pre-sets while allowing
you to dink around and learn stuff that will carry to other machines. once you get the hang of it it becomes so versitile. depending on what you will be hunting for the XLT may be the only machine you will need. instead of thinking you need a deeper more better machine get a new coil. smaller coils open up the old hunting areas you think are hunted out. there are so many times you find targets with so called better machines then swear to yourself you'd of found it with the XLT and could have saved yourself hundreds of dollars instead of following the fad of gotta go deeper.you get that XLT. you can't go wrong. i for one purchased mine after attending one of Monte's classes. the idea was that he'd owned so many and trusted them so much i just had to get it. haven't looked back. you'll be glad you did. no i'm not a salesman or dealer. just very happy with my XLT.

Nice price on a great machine. I've spent a lot of time using the XLT. I got out of detecting around 2003. Trying to get back into the hobby again now. It seems the price is running at $350 on up to $500 on them. That sounds like a great buy.

i have owned and used several differnt machines and when i leave the house my XLT is the machine i take with me it is an awesome machine and you will be very happy with it i'm sure.

I used, and still have an XLT... Due to circumstance of needing a little more depth I have moved to a different detector.. That said, it was not meant as a negative statement in any way about the XLT.

The XLT is one of the best all around metal detectors I ever used ........... The T2 being the other detector I found that worked very well everywhere.

The XLT is awesome for ID on coins, Relics, and even gold items. The depth is decent too. The unique advantage with the XLT is it's a pretty much do it all detector. Stable, easy to operate, and has outstanding ergonomics for all day hunting. Has many coils available.and the big plus is the quality Whites demands when they make a detector. It just keeps on working time, and time again..

You can hunt fields, Parks, Woods, and I even used it on the beach... The DFX of course excells at the beach due to frequencies available.. The XLT isn't a slouch at the beach on dry sand areas though..

I can assure you if you want good finds, good depth, quality product, and a really versatile detector the XLT More than qualifies... I use mine in many areas I need to be able to hunt through the trash too.

Hope this helps a little ...................

the xlt is a great machine it has a learning curve like any other machine but is good all around as far as price goes its an ok deal they range from 300 to 450 depending on condition and if it comes with any extra coils tool ect keep in mind whites stoped selling the xlt so eventually it will be harder to get repaired i would think
