Ive had my MXT about a week now and have done pretty good around here so far. I own 26 acres that has had a couple of homesites on it. One was in the early sixties and the other Im not sure of the age but the old "dug well" is right out back.
Anyway, Ive been working with the MXT like a crazy man, shooting for coins, digging some iron, etc. Its been a learning experience as one area is trashy as heck. Good area for learning though. Ive read the manual a couple of times, watched the DVD, researched and read everything I can find on the machine and have just ordered "The MXT Edge" which should be here by Friday.
Anyway, if all goes well ....... I am headed to an old 1800's homesite that the owners said has never been detected before. The house is still inhabited and theres other old places near the house. I expect there to be shallow junk since its been lived in thru the years, but there should be some good stuff (I hope) on the property. I am not exactly new to the hobby as I did a little years ago with an el cheapo machine when I was a kid and my dad has an older Whites I mess with every once in awhile. Any tips about hunting on an old site like this? I keep reading about the "repeatable low sound" on deeper targets, but am still a little confused about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I would start out in Relic Mode with the discrimination set at 6 and trigger forward. Any high tone beep, dig. If it's fainter high tone beeps......DIG DEEP! Then after you've "cherry picked", set the discrimination to about 2 and dig dig dig. That 1800's homestead sound quite interesting. Good luck and GO SLOW!!!!! With the MXT, it doesn't take a fast swing for it to target an item.....Like I said, "GO SLOW".

Thats the kind of helpful information I've been looking for. I'm just starting getting around to using my MXT that I've owned for over a year. I'm having fun but just learning. I'm surprised to read about using the Relic Mode most the time. Very interesting, I'm trying that tomorrow! Great forum here.

Thanks Nancy! I do have a question though ............. when you talk about "fainter high tone beeps" are they so faint / deep that the discriminator wont indicate anything?? I have got faint beeps around here that dont show anything on the screen ........... Im assuming they are deep enough that it cant ID the target? How deep have you recovered anything on a faint beep like that? (I know, tons of questions........LOL!)
Thanks in advance!!

If you do hear that faint high beep, turn your gain up. You might see the VDI number, but if not, I don't know if I would dig it or not. I have dug down 10" on a faint high beep and still ended up with a small round gun shot thingy. Don't you love my technical terms???? I'm not knowledgeable about the "right terms", but do great with layman's terms and I do know the MXT quite well. I've owned and used it for more than 5 yrs. and it doesn't collect dust in the closet. I'll try to help any way I can. Good luck! .

Thanks Nancy! BTW Im saving your replies to reference this weekend. Nothing like Technical verbage concerning "Thingies" !! (Just kidding!!)
Serious, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out!!
