Here is why I am bringing this up...

He was way too close to that bear. I wonder what thoughts were going through his mind during the last few seconds of his life? Kelley (Texas)

I remember when I was a kid back in Pennsylvania there was a dump about 150 yards from a back woods road where the black bears would gather to find something to eat. There was almost always 1 - 10 people with cameras and in some cases kids who walked back to the area to take photos, especially in the evening. For the most part the bears ignored the people (unless they got too close) because they were used to them. I was one of the people with a camera. The older I got and the better camera equipment I got I started using 300 - 500 mm lens and remote flashes. Unfortunately those photos were on the hard drive I lost a few years back. Haven't seen a bear in the wild since then.

You should beware of all wild animals - that's why they call them WILD ANIMALS.

by people who follow the rules. As for what the guy was thinking, he was probably too busy taking photos to realize anything until his last seconds of life. In all honesty, I am not sure who to feel sorrier for, the guy or the bear. The photographer caused not only his own death, but also the death of the bear. I am not saying that they shouldn't have killed the bear, just that none of this would have happened if it weren't for the photographer. If the photographer had been a half mile away like he was told to be, even if the bear had spotted him I doubt it would have gone after him... the bear would have probably thought that it wasn't worth the effort if it was gonna run away.

From my perspective, the photographer had entered the home land of the bear, then violated his free space which triggered the attack. Unfortunately, the bear reacted in predictable fashion and attacked the photographer. When the dust settled, the bear lost his life due to the original actions of the photographer, the bear was the true victim in my eyes. Folks should remember that wild animals are not human beings and do not act or think the same way as human beings. Just my humble opinion on this sad story. Kelley (Texas)
